Psychological evaluations for immigration legal proceedings
This type of psychological evaluation is usually necessary within the immigration legal proceedings in order to assess for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and other psychological issues related to the individual’s traumatic experiences. The referral source is usually courts, immigration officers, attorneys, or law school clinics. The issues pertaining to the evaluation may include emotional distress due to domestic violence or oppression due to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. in a home country. Some examples of such may include hardship evaluations, asylum, VAWA, U-Visa, and sex-offense or criminal-offense related matters.
